percussion therapy
Percussion therapy, also known as percussion massage or vibration therapy, is a non-invasive therapeutic technique used to help alleviate pain, improve range of motion, and enhance recovery.
In a chiropractic clinical setting, percussion therapy is typically administered using a handheld device called a Hypervolt or Theragun. The device uses a rapid and repetitive pulsating motion to deliver focused, high-intensity pressure waves to the affected area. The pressure waves penetrate deep into the muscle tissue and stimulate blood flow, which helps to reduce pain and inflammation and promote healing.
In our office, we use percussion therapy as part of a comprehensive treatment plan to address a variety of conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, joint stiffness, muscle soreness, and soft tissue injuries. This therapy is often used along-side other chiropractic techniques such as spinal adjustments, myofascial release, and active rehab exercises.
During a percussion therapy session, we will first identify the specific area of the body that needs to be treated. We will then apply the percussion massager to the affected area, adjusting the intensity and speed of the device to deliver the appropriate level of pressure. The therapy typically lasts for 5-10 minutes.
Overall, percussion therapy is a safe and effective technique that can be used to complement traditional chiropractic treatments. It can help patients to manage pain, improve mobility, and speed up the healing process, making it a valuable part of every patient’s visit!
